Battlestar Galactica Returns!

SyFy channel recently put out a press release on a new TV series coming fairly soon:

SYFY GREENLIGHTS BATTLESTAR GALACTICA: BLOOD & CHROME 2-Hour Pilot Chronicles Young William Adama's Adventures in First Cylon War

New York, NY - October 22, 2010 - Syfy is readying an exciting all-new chapter in the Battlestar Galactica saga with a greenlight for Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome from Executive Producer David Eick, it was announced today by Mark Stern, Executive Vice President of Original Programming, Syfy and Co-Head of Content for Universal Cable Productions. Universal Cable Productions will produce the 2-hour pilot with Syfy utilizing cutting edge CGI and virtual technology.
Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome takes place in the 10th year of the first Cylon war. As the battle between humans and their creation, a sentient robotic race, rages across the 12 colonial worlds, a brash rookie viper pilot enters the fray. Ensign William Adama, barely in his 20's and a recent Academy graduate, finds himself assigned to the newest battlestar in the Colonial fleet... the Galactica. The talented but hot-headed risk-taker soon finds himself leading a dangerous top secret mission that, if successful, will turn the tide of the decade long war in favor of the desperate fleet.
"The 'Galactica' universe as re-imagined by Ron Moore and David Eick is rich with possibilities and backstory," said Mark Stern. "We jumped at the chance to revisit the William Adama character and explore this exciting chapter in the BSG narrative which falls between the events of the original series and the prequel, 'Caprica,' currently airing on Syfy."
"While maintaining the themes of politics, social propaganda, and the timeless question: what does it mean to be human? - 'Blood & Chrome' will also return us to the authentic, relentless depiction of combat and the agony and ecstasy of human-Cylon war, which was the hallmark of 'Battlestar Galactica's' early seasons," said David Eick.
Michael Taylor wrote the teleplay from a story by Eick, Taylor and Bradley Thompson & David Weddle.

This story comes VIA Blastr.

Day - 11 Battlestar Galactica

Battlestar Galactica (Entire franchise) is one of the best series on the SyFy channel to date. Here is what Amazon has to say about it:

Battlestar Galactica's Edward James Olmos wasn't kidding when he said "the series is even better than the miniseries." As developed by sci-fi TV veteran Ronald D. Moore, the "reimagined" BSG is exactly what it claims to be: a drama for grown-ups in a science-fiction setting. The mature intelligence of the series is its greatest asset, from the tenuous respect between Galactica's militarily principled commander Adama (Olmos) and politically astute President Roslin (Mary McDonnell) to the barely suppressed passion between ace Viper pilot "Apollo" (a.k.a. Adama's son Lee, played by Jamie Bamber) and the brashly insubordinate Starbuck (Katee Sackhoff), whose multifaceted character is just one of many first-season highlights. Picking up where the miniseries ended (it's included here, sparing the need for separate purchase), season 1 opens with the riveting, Hugo Award-winning episode "33," in which Galactica and the "ragtag fleet" of colonial survivors begin their quest for the legendary 13th colony planet Earth, while being pursued with clockwork regularity by the Cylons, who've now occupied the colonial planet of Caprica. The fleet's hard-fought survival forms (1) the primary side of the series' three-part structure, shared with (2) the apparent psychosis of Dr. Gaius Baltar (James Callis) whose every thought and move are monitored by various incarnations of Number Six (Tricia Helfer), the seemingly omniscient Cylon ultravixen who follows a master plan somehow connected to (3) the Caprican survival ordeal of crash-landed pilots "Helo" (Tahmoh Penikett) and "Boomer" (Grace Park), whose simultaneous presence on Galactica is further evidence that 12 multicopied models of Cylons, in human form, are gathering their forces. With remarkably consistent quality, each of these 13 episodes deepens the dynamics of these fascinating characters and suspenseful situations. While BSG relies on finely nuanced performances, solid direction, and satisfying personal and political drama to build its strong emotional foundation, the action/adventure elements are equally impressive, especially in "The Hand of God," a pivotal episode in which the show's dazzling visual effects get a particularly impressive showcase. Original BSG series star Richard Hatch appears in two politically charged episodes (he's a better actor now, too), and with the threat of civil war among the fleet, season 1 ends with an exceptional cliffhanger that's totally unexpected while connecting the plot threads of all preceding episodes. To the credit of everyone involved, this is frackin' good television.

And they are right! This series is incredible, with amazing characters, visual effects, story and actors. It is well worth checking out as it is one of the best sci fi series of all time. You can find it at iTunes, or on Netflix Instant play as well as amazon (links to the left).

The video below should give you a little introduction into what Battlestar is all about. It is from the video game made for the XBOX.

Day - 10 Starship Troopers

I'm sure you all noticed that these Daily Reviews haven't been so daily. However, I have a good reason as to the fact that I have been extremely busy and also have been sick for over a week now. Anyway, being sick for over a week has made it easy to check out a lot more sci fi than I had time for before.

This time I'm taking a look at an awesome classic, Starship Troopers. This movie is about:

Starship Troopers charts the lives of elite members of the Mobile Infantry, a corps of dedicated young men and women soldiers fighting side-by-side in the ultimate intergalactic war... the battle to save humankind. The enemy is mysterious and incredibly powerful with only one mission: survival of their species no matter what the human cost.

Despite this movie being fairly gory and graphic, it is character driven and a great action movie. I would give this film a three out of five and push anyone to watch it, even if they aren't a sci fi fan. Considering this follows a band of Marines who have to survive out on another planet, it's somewhat easy to for people to follow even if they don't like sci fi. Check this one out! You can view it on Netflix instant play, buy it on iTunes or on Amazon.com (link to the left).

Battleship The Movie..... (*Awkward Silence*?)

Huh, that's a new one, a million dollar action thriller, sci fi, kick ass movie. Where did it come from? The massively famous board game Battleship. I think the studios just sunk their chances of getting money from this.

Anyway, according to SyFy Wire, the premise of the movie is that the major countries of the world put together a highly trained military fleet to counter an alien invasion threat....

Maybe...?

That's all up to you. In my opinion this isn't going to go so well but it's tentative release sometime within the next year to two years will answer weather this will be a big it or is going to sink.

Fall Season Post 02 - Fringe, SGU and Castle

FRINGE - Season 3 "Olivia" Review: 3/5 Stars.

Fringe is becoming one of the most amazing shows on tv right now, imagine being stuck in a completely differently reality and your opposite's memories were taking over your conciousness... a little extreme right? Hey it works amazingly, FBI agent Olivia Dunham is now Jane Bourne! However, Olivia's alternate from the other universe is on our side, and she has a plan...

STARGATE UNIVERSE - Season 2 "Intervention & Aftermath" Review: 4/5 Stars.

(No he is not laughing here, the image is just slightly blurry.)

Everyone lives! Until the second episode that is, that's when the start dropping, after the cliffhanger from Season 1 plays out. Personally I think Colonel Young should have not made it, especially what they're doing with his character in the second episode. However, the rest of the story is incredible, and at the end of the second episode with the ship dropping out of FTL and another unidentifiable object off in the distance, the only question is, what is it? Because we don't know yet, and we're about to find out...

CASTLE - Season 3 "A Deadly Affair" Review: 4/5

Okay so the episode opens with Nathan Fillion back in the game with a gun, running through an exploding storage room, bursting out through a fire escape, coming face to face with Detective Beckett, where they both raise their guns and fire. Are you lost yet? Turns out, the two "Bad Guys" we're following each of them from behind. In the end, Castle is back at the precinct, partnered with Det. Beckett and the show is on the road!!!!
